Salt Biscuits Recipe Homemade | How to Make Salt Biscuits recipe
Salt Biscuits is one of the famous south Indian snacks. They are best tasted with hot tea. Sweet and salt biscuits are almost available in every Irani tea stall. They are best suited for small children as well as old age people.
I wonder many people instead of having nutritious low-calorie food during the morning as a breakfast have two biscuits and a cup of tea or milk. Especially in Hyderabad, salt biscuits are common among below poverty line and Karachi biscuits among the middle and upper class.
Salt biscuits are usually prepared using maida or all-purpose flour and thymol as main ingredients to make it crisp and mouth melting. To get the soft and puffy output, we need to add ghee and mix vigorously.
We either use butter or ghee to knead the dough, we can even use vanaspati or normal oil but it tastes slightly different flavour. When it comes to the bakery version they use soda or sometimes yeast and bake it.
In another variation, I have seen people adding jeera even that is good for health, whereas we have added thymol seeds to keep your stomach in good condition and improve digestion.
TIPS to make perfect Salt Biscuits:
- Although the name states its salt biscuits, we add less than a tablespoon or else they taste salty.
- Crush thymol seeds in your hand if you feel they are big.
- While cutting chapatti into shape, if you do not have any mould we can directly slice chapatti using a knife into square or diamond shape.
- If you do not pierce chapatti they bulge like a puri also it helps in cooking biscuits.
