Raw Banana Chips Recipe Indian: Crisp & light Banana Chips
Raw Banana Chips Recipe is one of the deep-fried recipes which are crispy and spicy in flavour. They are made with kacha kela or aratikaya.
Unlike any other wafers, Raw Banana Chips Recipe can be made a bit thick or thin like wafers, in both conditions, they taste great. The only difference is that it takes time to cook for thick wafers.
It is one of the popular South Indian evening snack consumed along with tea. Also, kele ke chips can be made with fewer ingredients, the only thing is that you need to have the patience to deep fry.
Oil temperature plays an important role while making this recipe if the oil is hot chips turn its colour even before they are being cooked, so we need to fry them at medium temperature and stir continuously so that they are cooked evenly and at the end, you get thin and crispy wafers.
South Indians like to have traditional recipes as their evening snack, unlike western countries they like to avoid potato chips and like to make their own Crisp and light Homemade Banana Chips Recipe.
When it comes to potato chips, to get perfect colour and taste we need to choose the right variant or else they turn black even before they are deep-fried. But in our case, although we slice thin or thick we get good colour along with crispiness.
TIPS to make perfect Raw Banana Chips:
- Bananas must be put in milk, asafetida mixed water so that they do not become dark.
- Greasing your hands with oil will keep your hands non-sticky while slicing a banana.
- While deep frying spread chips while dropping with hands and do not rush to put slices as they stick and do not fry properly.
- Coconut oil or Palmolein oil gives good taste rather than sunflower or olive oil.
- We can add turmeric powder while making spice powder or dip in turmeric water to get yellowish colour.
- We need to slice a banana with chip slicer so that we get thin slices which give crunchy flavour.
- To the temperature of the oil, put one chip in the oil, if it floats and changes its colour slowly then the oil is ready to deep-fry.
- We need to store Raw Banana Chips Recipe in an airtight container only when they are cooled.

Ingredients
- Raw banana – 4 No.
- Water – Required
- Milk – 1 cup
- Asafetida – ½ tbsp.
- Palmolein oil – 1 Liter
- Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp.
- Red chilli powder – ½ tbsp.
- Salt – ¾ tbsp.
- Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.
Instructions
- Before slicing banans, we need to take care that they do not turn its colour to black.
- We need to make a mix where we can prevent changing its colour, so add little milk and asafetida to water and mix well.
- Remove the edges and peel off the skin and put them immediately in the above mix.
- In a Kadai or wok, pour oil by giving space to deep fry.
- On the other hand, let’s make spice powder. We can sprinkle the only salt and pepper powder or else make spice powder. In our recipe, we made it by adding turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt and red chilli powder.
- When oil seems to be ready, slice bananas into thin and put one slice into the oil to check whether the oil is ready to deep fry or not.
- If slice floats over oil then put a batch of slices by splitting them with hands and gently placing slices in oil so that they do not become clumsy and stick.
- Deep fry them by stirring occasionally and flipping to another side till they change their colour and oil stops bubbling.
- Drain excess oil and transfer to another vessel.
- While chips are hot, sprinkle spice powder and mix well.
- Raw Banana Chips recipe need to be stored in an airtight container once they are cooled.

How to make Raw Banana Chips Recipe:
1. In a large vessel pour adequate water, a cup of milk, asafetida and mix.
2. Cut the edges of the banana and Peel the skin put it in the milk water.
3. In a large Kadai, pour oil and let it turn hot.
4. Meanwhile, let’s prepare spice powder. In a bowl add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and coriander powder mix well and keep aside.
5. Take one raw banana, pressing hard; rub over the slicer to get thin slices.
6. To check the temperature of the oil, put a piece of sliced raw banana if it floats then the oil is ready to deep-fry.
7. Based on the size of the Kadai and the quantity of oil you are using we need to put sliced banana, in our case I have sliced one and used it immediately before it changed its colour.
Note: While putting slices, we need to spread slices or else they may stick.
8. We need to flip to the other side and stir occasionally till we oil stops bubbling and change its colour.
9. Drain oil and transfer to another bowl.
10. While the chips are hot, sprinkle spice powder so that spices stick to the chips.
11. Once chips are cooled, they turn crispy. Store Raw Banana Chips in an airtight container to keep them crisp.
Note: Placing tissue paper or any kitchen paper below the container will absorb excess oil.
