Our recipe is made in Andhra style and the word iguru means making our recipe to cook till we get thick gravy which best suits with all kinds of Indian bread. We make use of onions and tomato puree to get such amazing flavoured gravy.
When Royyala Iguru is served along with rice, I recommend having it first when rice is hot. One can experience the flavours of this recipe while we chew with hot rice.
We can even use this recipe as a sandwich stuffing ingredient between bread or roll between roti or pulkha.
Tips to make perfect Prawns Curry Recipe:
- Gently remove prawns shell and clean them properly.
- If you do not like the smell of prawns clean them with turmeric and salt and then put them in a mixing bowl.
- We need not marinate prawns as we only add salt and turmeric powder, but we cook them on low flame till their moisture is released.
- We usually add an adequate quantity of onions and tomatoes to get a thick gravy.
- Add only half a bowl of water to get soft and perfectly cooked prawns.

Prawns Curry | Royyala Iguru is one of the simple seafood recipes which can be done with fewer ingredients by giving you amazing flavour.
Ingredients
- Prawns – 250 gms.
- Salt – ½ tbsp.
- Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp.
- Oil – 3 tbsp.
- Cinnamon sticks – 2 No.
- Cloves – 4 No.
- Green cardamom – 1 No.
- Cumin seeds/ jeera – ½ tbsp.
- Onions – ½ bowl
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp.
- Green chillies – 2 No.
- Red chilli powder – ¼ tbsp.
- Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.
- Tomatoes – ½ bowl
- Water – ½ bowl
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp.
Instructions
- Clean prawns with a little salt and turmeric powder. Wash and then put them in a mixing bowl.
- Add little salt and turmeric powder. Mix and keep aside.
- Heat very little oil in a pan and spread it. Put above prawns and saute for a while.
- Lower flame and cook for a while with lid covered so that moisture releases.
- When prawns are semi-cooked, transfer them to a plate.
- Add a little more oil to the same pan and add cloves, cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks and green cardamom.
- Put finely sliced onions and saute for a while.
- Add ginger garlic paste, green chillies, a little turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt.
- Put finely sliced tomaotes and cook with lid covered till they turn soft.
- Once oil oozes out add prawns and mix.
- Add ½ bowl water and cook further with lid covered till water evaporates and we get thick gravy.
- Sprinkle coriander leaves and mix. Serve prawns curry with chapati or with steam rice.

How to make Prawns Curry Recipe:
1. Clean and put prawns in a mixing bowl. Add ¼ tbsp. salt, ¼ tbsp. turmeric powder and mix well.
2. Add 1 tbsp. oil and put prawns in it. Close the lid and cook on a low flame till moisture evaporates and colour changes.
3. Transfer prawns to another plate and keep them aside.
4. Put 2 tbsp. Oil in the same pan and add cinnamon sticks, cloves and green cardamom.
5. Add cumin seeds, onions and ginger garlic paste. Saute for a while.
6. Put sliced green chillies, ¼ tbsp. turmeric powder, ¼ tbsp. Salt and ¼ tbsp. red chilli powder.
7. Add coriander powder, tomatoes and mix well. Cook for a while with lid covered.
8. Put cooked prawns and ½ bowl water and cook for 5 minutes with lid covered till water evaporates.
9. Garnish prawns curry with coriander leaves and serve hot.
