Popcorn Chicken Recipe – KFC Style

Unlike restaurants and fast food centers, we are not using frozen chicken and multiple-tasting ingredients. We have added Ajinomoto only to give KFC Style flavor, if you are pregnant or serving this recipe to children below 5 years we can skip this ingredient.
To give extra crispiness to the Popcorn Chicken Recipe we can give two coats of spice flour or we can even experiment with egg white and bread crumbs to give crispy texture and perfectly golden brown color.
As we have learned that marinating chicken for more time will make it soft, we can mix this recipe and put them in a refrigerator. If you want to make use of this recipe for 2-3 days then we need to freeze them.
Tips to make a perfect Popcorn Chicken recipe:
- As the word popcorn says they must be small, tell the butcher to cut it into small cubes or else we have to cut them down manually.
- Try to gather all the ingredients mentioned in our recipes to get the perfect flavor.
- Although tasting salt gives KFC style flavor, researchers say that it is not good for health so when serving to pregnant and children below 5 years, I recommend skipping this ingredient.
- After marinating for 4-5 hours chicken turns soft and moist. Coat flour to chicken pieces by pressing hard.
- If you want a crispy and thick layer of flour, we can put coated chicken pieces in cold water and give a second coating.
- We can even give a second coating with breadcrumb powder to have a crispy texture.

Ingredients
- Chicken – 250 gms.
- Salt – 1 ½ tbsp.
- Black pepper powder – 1 tbsp.
- Red chili powder – ½ tbsp.
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp.
- Garam masala powder – 2 tbsp.
- Cumin/ jeera powder – 1 tbsp.
- Coriander powder – 1 tbsp.
- Tasting salt/ Ajinomoto – ¼ tbsp. optional-used to give KFC style flavor
- Vinegar – 1 tbsp.
- Fresh cream – 8 tbsp.
- Maida/ all purpose flour – ½ cup/ 8 tbsp.
- Corn flour – ½ cup/ 8tbsp.
- Kashmiri red chili powder – 1 tbsp.
- Baking powder – 1 tbsp.
Instructions
- Clean boneless chicken and cut it into small pieces (if possible cubes).
- In a mixing bowl, add chicken, little salt, red chili powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, ginger garlic paste, tasting salt, vinegar, and fresh cream.
- Mix all the spices and close the bowl and marinate for 4-5 hours. The more time we marinate the more chicken turns soft and absorbs spices.
- Let’s prepare coating mixture, in a wide plate add corn flour, maida, black pepper powder, garam masala powder, a little salt, Kashmiri red chili powder, and baking powder. Mix all and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and let the temperature reach around 180 degrees.
- Meanwhile, take out the marinated chicken and put them in the above spice powder, and coat well.
- To remove excess powder put them in a metal ladder to sieve excess powder.
- When oil is ready, put popcorn chicken in oil and deep fry till they turn a golden brown color.
- Remove from oil and drain excess oil, transfer KFC Style chicken popcorn recipe over a kitchen towel and serve hot.

How to make Popcorn Chicken recipe:
1. Clean and slice chicken into small pieces. Put it in a mixing bowl.
2. Add ½ tbsp. salt, ½ tbsp. black pepper powder, red chili powder, and ginger garlic paste.
3. Put 1 tbsp. garam masala powder, jeera powder, coriander powder, and tasting salt.
4. Add vinegar and fresh cream mix all spices and close the lid and keep aside for 4-5 hours. Let it marinate.
5. On a wide plate add all-purpose flour, cornflour, Kashmiri red chili powder, and black pepper powder.
6. Add 1 tbsp. salt, 1 tbsp. garam masala powder and baking powder. Mix all ingredients.
7. Take marinated chicken and place it in the above flour mix and coat powder to it and keep aside.
8. Put coated pieces in a metal ladder and flip to remove the excess coating of powder.
9. Heat oil in a pan and bring it to optimum temperature (350-370 F) at high flame and when putting chicken pieces lower the flame and cook at medium temperature.
10. When Popcorn Chicken turns golden brown color, remove from oil and transfer them to steel net ladder and drain excess oil.
11. Transfer the chicken popcorn recipe over a kitchen towel and serve hot with tomato sauce.
