Healthy Nuvvula Annam | Navratri Special Sesame Rice Recipe
Nuvvula Annam or Sesame Rice is one of the simple sesame seed, peanut-flavoured rice that can be made with leftover rice.
If you are bored of eating normal white rice or making regular fried rice then try this recipe. Usually, sesame seeds or their powder is added to recipes to enhance its flavour or its aroma.
Unlike other Chinese fried rice recipes, this recipe does not require any kind of flavour enhancers like MSG. Sesame seed itself has a unique flavour.
To save time, we make spice powder in advance and keep it aside. By adding a few ingredients to season and adding leftover cooked rice, this recipe can be made easily.
TIPS to Make Nuvvula Annam or Sesame Rice Recipe:
- While dry roasting spices, roast them on low flame and as per their boiling point.
- If you are not aware of the boiling temperature of spices roast them individually one by one or else follow the sequence mentioned in our recipe.
- To get grainy rice, we can either remove starch or add a spoonful of oil while cooking rice.
- When grinding sesame seed mix, to get free flow powder, grind for less time, or else there is a chance of forming lumps.
- If you get lumps of sesame seeds, don’t worry. Our recipe is not going to get spoiled, it takes time to mix with rice. Be patient and mix properly with rice.

NuvvulaAnnam or SesameRice is one of the simple sesame seeds, peanut-flavoured rice which can be made with leftover rice.
Ingredients
- Sesame Seeds – ½ bowl
- Groundnuts – 1 tbsp.
- Yellow lentil/ kandi pappu – 1 tbsp.
- Dry red chillies – 6 No.
- Curry leaves – 2 tbsp.
- Ghee – 2 tbsp.
- Mustard seeds – ½ tbsp.
- Moong dal – ½ tbsp.
- Chana dal – ½ tbsp.
- Cumin seeds – ¼ tbsp.
- Cashew – 8 No.
- Rice – 1 bowl 250 gms.
- Salt – 1 ¼ tbsp.
Instructions
- If you preparing rice then start with cooking rice and make sure they cook non-sticky.
- Dry roast yellow lentils, groundnuts, dry red chillies, sesame seeds and curry leaves.
- Once curry leaves turn crisp and sesame seeds change its colour remove from flame and let them cool.
- While spices turn cool, heat ghee on a pan and fry chana dal, moong dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, cashew, curry leaves and dry red chilly.
- Add cooked rice and mix well, lower the flame and prepare spice powder.
- Put cooled spices in a mixer grinder and add a little salt to taste. Make soft powder and add this to rice.
- Mix well and add little more salt as per your taste.
- Sesame rice or Nuvvuala Annam tastes great when it’s hot.

How to make Nuvvula Annam or Sesame Rice Recipe:
1. Dry roast groundnuts, yellow lentils, 5 No. dry red chillies and sesame seeds.
2. Add 1 tbsp. curry leaves, roast for a while and transfer to another plate. Keep aside to cool.
3. Heat 2 tbsp. ghee on a pan and add mustard seeds, moong dal and chana dal.
4. Add cumin seeds, cashew, 1 No. dry red chilly and 1 tbsp. curry leaves.
5. If you already have cooked rice its well and good, if not add a spoon oil while cooking rice so that we can grainy rice. Add rice and mix well.
6. Put dry roast spices in a mixer grinder and add 1 tbsp. salt and blend to a soft powder.
7. Sprinkle ¼ tbsp. salt and add above spice powder and mix well.
8. Serve Nuvvula Annam or sesame rice hot or offer this recipe to the goddess during Durga Navratri.
