- To give a creamy and royal texture we cook onions, tomatoes, and other blends of spices and make a paste of it.
- While roasting spices maintain a low flame so that they get cooked perfectly without burning.
- If you are in a hurry, make onion, tomato, and cashew paste one day before and refrigerate.
- We can make this recipe by adding frozen green peas. Just put them in room temperature water for a minute and rinse to clear added chemicals.
- Usually, the flavor and spiciness of this recipe depend on garam masala powder. Either add homemade garam masala powder as we roast them on low flame or go for the brand.
- We can substitute cashews with poppy seeds to make a creamy gravy.

Matar paneer recipe is one of the popular North Indian recipes made with Indian cottage cheese and green peas as main ingredients.
Ingredients
- Paneer – 250 gms.
- Oil – 6 tbsp.
- Onions – ½ bowl
- Garlic cloves – 16 No.
- Ginger pieces – 1 tbsp.
- Cinnamon sticks – 3 No.
- Cloves – 8 No.
- Green cardamoms – 2 No.
- Cashews – 2 No.
- Tomatoes – ½ bowl
- Water – 2 glass
- Bay leaves – 2 No.
- Cumin seeds/ jeera – ½ tbsp.
- Green chilies – 2 No.
- Salt – 1 tbsp.
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tbsp.
- Red chili powder – 1 tbsp.
- Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.
- Garam masala powder – ½ tbsp.
- Green peas/ matar – 1 cup
Instructions
- Paneer can be added either fresh or by frying them in oil. Our version uses fried, shallow fry paneer cubes in oil till they turn a mild golden color.
- Transfer cubes to another plate and keep them aside.
- In the same pan add cinnamon sticks, green cardamom, cloves, onions, garlic and ginger pieces, cashew, and tomatoes.
- Saute for a while on low flame till onions and tomatoes turn soft.
- Off the flame and let them cool. Put this mixture in a mixer grinder and make a soft paste, if needed add little water while grinding to make a soft paste.
- Add oil to the same pan and add green chillies, cumin seeds, bay leaves, and tomato paste.
- Sprinkle coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt as per taste.
- Add green peas and little water. Mix all ingredients and bring them to a boil.
- Put paneer cubes and close the lid. Cook for 2-5 minutes till gravy thickens and gives a creamy texture.
- Garnish coriander leaves over creamy matar paneer recipe and serve hot.

How to make matar paneer recipe restaurant style:
1. Heat 3 tbsp. oil in a pan put paneer cubes and fry. Flip to the other side in a minute, once they get fried to a mild golden brown color, remove them from the oil and transfer them to another plate.
2. Add onions, garlic cloves, ginger pieces, and cinnamon sticks.
3. Put cloves, green cardamoms, and cashews. Saute for a while till the onions turn soft.
4. Add tomatoes and cook for a minute till they turn soft. Off the flame and let this mixture cool and then transfer to a mixer grinder. Grind to soft paste by adding a little water.
5. Put 3 tbsp. Oil in the same pan and add bay leaves, cumin seeds, and green chilies.
6. While cumin seeds are spluttering add tomato-onion paste and saute for a while.
7. Sprinkle salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder.
8. Add garam masala powder, green peas, and 1 bowl of water. Mix and cook till the water starts boiling.
9. Put fried paneer, mix, and close the lid. Cook till the gravy thickens. Garnish the matar paneer recipe with coriander leaves and serve hot.
