Andhra Fish Curry Recipe is one of the simple yet delicious recipes which is prepared without adding tamarind pulp. Learn how to make an Andhra fish curry recipe with step by step images, tips and a video.
Andhra style fish curries are made by adding tamarind to give sweet and sour flavour but we have substituted it with tomato puree which gives us thick and spicy gravy to be served with hot steamed rice.
When it comes to a healthy way of making fish recipes, we can count on grill-style or curry style. But when it comes to choosing any one of the above, then my choice is curry as nutrients are locked in this style. If you grill or fry many micronutrients get burned.
Usually, while making this recipe many people marinate fish with a blend of spices but in our recipe, we do not marinate instead cook with a spice coating. So it’s a good idea to use a wide pan instead of the vessel as it’s not pulusu.
In my previous posts, I have mentioned how to make Andhra style chepala pulusu with tamarind. People who don’t like to eat sweet flavor they can use this as it has a spicy and tangling flavor. Usually, fish recipe made using tamarind pulp tastes great after 6-12 hours of preparation. This variant must be consumed on the same day.
Tips to make a perfect Andhra fish curry recipe:
- Do not cut fish into thin pieces as they best suit for only frying.
- Try to choose 2-4 kg sized big fish without having chana (eggs) as its meat has good taste.
- If you want you can substitute tomatoes with tamarind and go with the traditional style of cooking.
- To cook fish we add water to the level of fish pieces and cook for only 5 minutes as we all know fish can be cooked in less time.
- When fish pieces are coated with its gravy and cooked for 2 minutes with lid covered fish not only cooks but also absorbs its flavours.
- If you want gravy then we can add a small quantity of poppy seed paste with the flavour of this recipe slightly changes.
