Coconut Rice Recipe or Thengai Sadam is one of the South

Ingredients
- ½ Large bowl Coconut Grate – ½ Large bowl
- 1 bowl Rice
- 500 ml. Water
- 2 tbsp. Ghee
- ½ tbsp. Mustard seeds
- ½ tbsp. Cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp. Chana dal
- 1 tbsp. Ginger pieces
- 6 No. Green chillies
- 3 No. Dry Red chillies
- 2 tbsp. Curry leaves
- 2 tbsp. Cashew
- 1 tbsp. Salt
- 2 tbsp. Coriander leaves
Instructions
- Clean rice and add adequate water based on the oldness of rice and cook.
- Usually, the ratio of rice and water is 1:2 when you are preparing in small quantity.
- If you already have cooked rice then it’s well and good, as this rice absorbs the flavour of spices rather than freshly cooked rice.
- In a pan, heat ghee and add chana dal, ginger pieces, mustard seeds, green chillies, cumin seeds, curry leaves and dry red chillies.
- Saute for a while and add cashew.
- Add finely grated fresh coconut and sauté for a while.
- Sprinkle salt and mix for a second.
- Add cooked rice and stir till all ingredients are mixed.
- Serve Coconut Rice Recipe or Thengai Sadam garnished with coriander leaves.

How to make Coconut Rice Recipe:
- First let us cook rice, add rice in a vessel and pour a little water to clean rice.
- For one bowl of rice, add 2 bowls of water and cook on low heat.
Tip: Once the rice is cooked, we can find the dried outer layer. To check whether rice is cooked or not, place a spoon in the middle of the rice, if we find it non-sticky then the rice is cooked else cook till it’s non-sticky.
- Heat 2 tbsp. ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and chana dal.
- Add finely sliced ginger pieces, green chillies, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
- Drop cashew and coconut grate and sauté for a while.
- Sprinkle salt and sauté till the raw flavour is cooked.
- Add cooked rice and mix well.
