Usually, tikka recipes are coated with yogurt, a blend of spices and marinated. Then they are cooked on skewered or barbequed to get their ultimate flavor and then cooked with spices to get gravy. This recipe goes well with naan roti coated with butter or with vegetable biryani.
Our version doesn’t require any kind of grilling they are just marinated with a blend of spices and yogurt mix and then deep-fried. These fried pieces are cooked with tomato puree and other spices to get gravy. To obtain a soft and creamy texture we even add fresh cream.
Tips to make the perfect chicken tikka masala recipe:
- When we clean chicken pieces, there is a tendency of water absorption, so put it in a skillet so that the whole water is drained.
- Use thick curd and discard water so that we can make thick coats of chicken pieces as they need to deep fry.
- If you do not have Kashmiri red chilli powder, we can add normal red chilli powder.
- Adding Kashmiri red chilli powder will give you eye compelling chicken tikka masala recipe.
- If you do not like to deep fry chicken pieces we can grill them and resume the process of cooking.

Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe
Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe is one of the spicy and mild gravy recipes loaded with the flavors of Indian spices to make it unique among chicken varieties.
Ingredients
- Chicken – 300 gms.
- Salt – 2 tbsp.
- Kashmiri Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp.
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp.
- Curd – 3 tbsp.
- Coriander powder – 2 tbsp.
- Garam masala powder – 1 ½ tbsp.
- Black pepper powder – a pinch
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tbsp.
- Jeera/ Cumin powder – 1 ½ tbsp.
- Lemon juice – 2 tbsp.
- Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp.
- Oil – 5 tbsp.
- Onions – 1 bowl
- Ginger garlic paste – ½ tbsp.
- Tomato puree – 1 cups
- Kashmiri red chilli powder – 1 tbsp.
- Water – 100 ml.
- Fresh cream – 1 cup
- Kasuri methi powder – 1 tbsp.
Instructions
Clean chicken under running tap and keep aside for a while in a skillet so that whole water gets drained.
- Transfer these pieces to a mixing bowl and put ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, salt, garam masala powder, black pepper powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, lemon extract and a small chunk of curd.
- Mix all ingredients so that each piece is coated with this thick spice paste. Keep aside and marinate for an hour.
- If you have a microwave for grilling or barbeque equipment we can cook with them or else we need to shallow fry them.
- In our version we shallow fry, so add little oil in a pan and put chicken pieces and cook on low to medium flame.
- Flip and cook them till they turn golden or dark brown color to exhibit grilling flavor. Remove from oil and keep aside.
- If there is any oil leftover in the pan, add cumin seeds and onions, or else fry them by adding a spoon of oil.
- Meanwhile, make tomato puree by putting tomatoes in a mixer grinder.
- Add a little ginger garlic paste and sauté for a while and add tomato puree.
- Sprinkle little Kashmiri red chilli powder to give reddish texture, turmeric powder, coriander and jeera powders, salt as per your taste and garam masala powder to spice up the recipe.
- Add required water so that we get spices in gravy that can be released and spread through this thick gravy.
- Based on the texture we need we add water (if you want thick gravy add more water or else lower quantity to get thick texture).
- Put chicken pieces and cook for 5 minutes and then add fresh cream. Mix.
- As we have added fresh cream, saltiness may drop so check the taste of the recipe, if necessary adjust salt as per your taste.
- Sprinkle kasuri methi and serve chicken tikka masala recipe hot.

How to make chicken tikka masala recipe:
1. Clean and add chicken pieces to a mixing bowl. Put 1 tbsp. salt, Kashmiri red chilli powder and ginger garlic paste.
2. Add curd (avoid liquid), 1 tbsp. coriander powder, 1 tbsp. garam masala powder and a pinch of black pepper powder.
3. Sprinkle turmeric powder, 1 tbsp. cumin powder and extract lemon juice. Mix all ingredients.
4. Place the lid and marinate chicken pieces for an hour.
5. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry chicken pieces. Once cooked flip to the other side.
6. Once chicken pieces are roasted transfer to another plate.
7. In leftover oil add cumin seeds and sliced onions. Saute for a while.
8. Put tomatoes in a mixer grinder and make tomato puree.
9. Add ginger garlic paste, tomato puree, turmeric powder and Kashmiri red chilli powder.
10. Sprinkle ½ tbsp. Salt, 1 tbsp. Coriander powder, ½ tbsp. Jeera powder and ½ tbsp. Garam masala powder. Mix well.
11. Add little water and bring the whole mixture to a boil.
12. Put fried chicken pieces, cook for 5 minutes so that it absorbs the flavors of the spices.
13. Add fresh cream, salt (adjust as per your taste) and sprinkle few strands of kasuri methi.
14. Serve chicken tikka masala recipe hot with steam rice or with chapati.
