Chicken Balti Recipe, How to make Chicken Balti Recipe Restaurant Style
Chicken Balti is one of the delicious Mughlai recipes. I have modified the ingredients to suit Indian flavor and tried to illustrate Chicken Balti Recipe in a Restaurant style.
Traditionally Balti recipes are not too spicy, they taste great when they are at normal spicy. It’s thick tomato gravy gives you feeling of spiciness. It goes well with vegetable biryani, jeera rice or even chapati.
Usually, Indians believe food prepared in the traditional manner has great taste so they use balti (cooking pot) and some of them like to use pots made of clay.
You may also like some of our chicken recipes – Chicken Biryani, pepper chicken, Andhra chicken curry, Chicken makhani and broiled chicken wings.
Chicken Balti Recipe, How to make Chicken Balti Recipe Restaurant Style
Ingredients
Ingredients for Chicken Balti:
- Chicken – ½ kg.
- Turmeric powder – ¾ tbsp.
- Slat – 1 tbsp. as per your taste
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp. fresh
- Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp.
- Oil – 3 tbsp.
- Cinnamon Stick – 4 no. ½ inch
- Cloves – 3 no.
- Green chilies – 5 no.
- Tomato puree – ½ large cup 4 no. tomatoes
- Red chili powder – ¾ tbsp.
- Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.
- Black pepper powder – ¼ tbsp.
- Curd/ yogurt – ½ cup 100 ml
- Lemon juice – ½ slice
Instructions
How to Make Chicken Balti Recipe Restaurant Style:
- Clean chicken and sprinkle turmeric powder, salt, coriander leaves and ginger garlic paste.
- Mix well and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a kadai, heat oil and fry cloves, cinnamon sticks, sliced onions and sliced green chillies.
- Meanwhile, add ripe tomatoes in a blender and make tomato puree.
- Add this to onions and sprinkle red chilli powder, black pepper powder, salt and coriander leaves.
- Cook tomato puree for a minute and add chicken pieces, yogurt, and cook for 15-20 minutes till chicken turns soft.
- Squeeze lemon juice over pieces and garnish Chicken Balti Recipe with coriander leaves.

How to Make Chicken Balti Recipe Restaurant Style:
- Clean chicken pieces under water and keep aside.
- Add turmeric powder, ¾ tbsp. salt, fresh ginger garlic paste, and 2 tbsp. coriander leaves.
- Mix all ingredients with hand and marinate for 30 minutes in a refrigerator.
- In a kadai, add oil, cinnamon sticks, cloves and sliced onions.
- Once onions turn translucent add green chilies.
- Take 4 tomatoes and put them in a blender to make tomato puree.
- Add tomato puree to above mix and stir well.
- Add ¼ salt, red chili powder, coriander leaves and black pepper powder.
Tip: Adjust salt as per your taste as we have already added salt in marinating mix.
- Once tomatoes are cooked, add chicken marinate.
- Add ½ cup yogurt to enhance flavor and mix well.
- Cover with the lid and cook for 15 minutes until chicken pieces turn soft.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and sprinkle lemon extract.
- Serve Chicken Balti Recipe hot with plain rice or chapati.
Tip: Usually, lemon juice will lower spiciness so take care of the quantity of lemon juice.
