Tips to make the perfect Chatpata Matar Namkeen Recipe:
- The minimum soaking time of green peas should be 8 hours. If soaked overnight it’s good.
- Dry peas over a clean cloth so that we can save oil while deep frying.
- Adding a pinch of baking soda while soaking will make peas soft and crisp.
- We can even air fry or even bake if you are health conscious.
- While deep frying, if we make use of a steel ladder we can fry perfectly. Also, it becomes easy to strain excess oil.

Chatpata Matar Namkeen | Fried Spicy Green Peas is one of the tea-time snacks which is prepared by deep-frying green peas.
Ingredients
- Dry green peas – 1 cup
- Salt – 1 tbsp.
- Water – to soak
- Oil – to deep fry
- Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp.
- Turmeric powder – a pinch
- Chat masala – 1 tbsp.
- Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.
- Garam masala powder – ½ tbsp.
- Rock salt – ½ tbsp.
- Kashmiri red chilli powder – ¼ tbsp.
Instructions
- Soak green peas in a bowl by adding adequate water, a little salt and soda bicarbonate.
- Close the lid and soak overnight or 8-12 hours so that they become soft.
- Drain water, if needed add little fresh water and clean peas.
- Put drained peas over a cloth and let them dry under a fan.
- Meanwhile heat oil in a pan at a high temperature, once we get the required temperature lower the flame.
- Place steel net ladder in oil and put green peas with a spoon in small quantity so that oil does not overflow from pan.
- Deep fry peas on low to medium flame till they turn crisp and give a crackling sound when a ladder is shaken.
- Drain oil and transfer Chatpata Matar Namkeen to a bowl and sprinkle spice powder while they are hot.
- We can purchase spice powder in the local market or make use of homemade spice powder.
- Let’s prepare our spice powder by adding chat masala powder, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and rock salt.

How to make Chatpata Matar Namkeen Recipe:
1. Put dried green peas in a bowl and put a little salt, and adequate water and soak for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight.
2. Drain soaked water and put green peas over a clean and dry cloth and dry them.
3. Heat oil in a pan and place a dry steel net ladder. Put green peas in small quantities.
4. Deep fry peas on low flame till they turn their color slightly.
5. When perfectly fried, they give a crackling sound when we shake in the net.
6. Put fried Chatpata Matar Namkeen over a kitchen towel so that excess oil will be absorbed.
Making spice powder to spice up chana dal namkeen recipe:
7. In a mixing bowl add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and chat masala powder.
8. Add coriander powder, garam masala powder, rock salt and mix all ingredients.
9. Put ¾ tbsp. above spice powder over Fried Spicy Green Peas and sprinkle a little Kashmiri red chilli powder and mix well.
